A record 65 Nevada Wolf Pack student-athletes have applied for graduation at the University of Nevada this spring and summer.
Ceremonies for the 126th University Commencement are set for this weekend on the University's historic Quadrangle on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14. A reception for graduating student-athletes and their families will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center on campus.
This year's crop of graduates represent all but two of Nevada's sports programs and, with 11 members of the Nevada spirit program also graduating, 76 students representing Nevada athletics will be receiving their degrees this week.
"We are extremely proud of this excellent class of student-athletes and congratulate them on achieving this ultimate goal of graduating from our University," said Doug Knuth, Nevada's fourth-year athletics director. "We are appreciative for all that they have achieved during their time at Nevada and thank them for their contributions to Wolf Pack athletics."
Graduating Nevada student-athletes are given a special silver and blue sash to wear at Commencement in recognition of their efforts as student-athletes.
The 76 student-athletes who are graduating are part of 2,710 degrees and certificates that will be conferred at Spring Commencement, which is made up of three separate ceremonies on campus.
The University will confer 2,710 degrees this week, the most-ever in the school's history. Academic programs participating in the first undergraduate ceremony at 8 a.m., Friday, May 13, will be the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources, College of Business and the Division of Health Sciences. The second ceremony, Friday at 5 p.m., includes the College of Engineering and the College of Science. The 8 a.m. ceremony Saturday, May 14, includes the academic programs of the College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and Reynolds School of Journalism.
Both morning ceremonies have the same start times: graduates report to their designated college line-up location by 7:45 a.m. and the ceremony procession begins at 8 a.m. Friday evening's ceremony begins with the student line-up at 4:30 p.m. and the procession at 5 p.m. Students receiving dual degrees may participate in more than one ceremony.
Free public parking is available in the West Stadium Parking Complex and the Blue and Green surface lots. Shuttles will be available two hours before each ceremony. The Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex will be available for handicap parking
Including this spring and summer's graduates, Nevada has seen 748 of its student-athletes graduate in the past 10 years, a figure that includes 22 student-athletes who walked in commencement ceremonies this past December.
