College of Engineering brings new documentary film to campus

"Before the Flood," a new National Geographic documentary film about climate change featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, will be shown in a special screening on the University of Nevada, Reno campus Thursday, Nov. 3 in the Davidson Mathematics and Science Center. 

"Before the Flood," by filmmaker Fisher Stevens and Executive Producer Martin Scorsese, follows DiCaprio as he travels to five continents and the Arctic speaking to scientists, world leaders, activists and local residents to gain a deeper understanding of this complex issue and investigate concrete solutions to climate change. 

The College of Engineering, home to several environmental sciences programs, is hosting the special screening of the film for students, faculty and the community. Admission is free. 

"Before the Flood" presents an account of how society can prevent the demise, due to climate change, of endangered species, ecosystems and native communities across the globe. DiCaprio interviews individuals from every face of society in both developing and developed nations who provide unique, impassioned and pragmatic views on what must be done today to transition our economic and political systems into environmentally friendly institutions. People in the film include: Leonardo DiCaprio, President Barack Obama, Former President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State John Kerry, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Pope Francis. 

The film will be shown at 6 p.m. in DMS 110. Seating is on a first come, first served basis and doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
