Placement Information - Incoming Freshman
There are two ways to place into a mathematics or statistics course at UNR.
- ACT/SAT scores. This is the default method of placement for math/stat courses and the one that the Mathematics and Statistics department encourages. So far they have proven to be better predictors of subsequent success than other placement tools.
- Accuplacer testing. Students who do not have ACT/SAT scores can take the Accuplacer test for math/stat course placement. Additionally, Accuplacer can be used for students who wish to challenge the placement based on their ACT/SAT scores.
Please note that the Accuplacer placement test is for initial placement only, meaning:
Once a student has enrolled in and started a math/stat course, only successful completion of the class will permit the student to enroll in the next course in the math/stat series.
